National fundraising organization activates new local donors, offers $10,000 grand prize to top Indianapolis nonprofit competitor in bracket-based tournament
Presenting sponsor Valeo Financial Advisors, LLC brings fundraising contest back to Indianapolis nonprofits
Calling all Indianapolis nonprofits: Charitable organization, Brackets For Good, challenges your organization to friendly competition and a chance to win $10,000!
Indianapolis-based Brackets For Good hosts online, bracket-style fundraising tournaments every March in communities around the United States. Participating nonprofits rally enthusiastic donors to out-fundraise their opponents in order to advance. These organizations gain exposure, access to free fundraising tools and potential new donors through Brackets for Good’s localized marketing and corporate involvement.
The 2016 tournament in the Indianapolis area garnered 3,931 donations, 42 percent of which were first-time donations. Donors gave $446,514 total, and tournament champion Joseph Maley Foundation brought in $75,535, on top of the $10,000 prize awarded by corporate sponsor Valeo Financial Advisors.
Since Brackets For Good’s kickoff contest in 2012, it has raised more than $2.75 million for local charities. Due to the overwhelming success, the tournament originally expanded from Indianapolis to Louisville, followed by Ann Arbor, St. Louis and Twin Cities. Brackets For Good is pleased to announce it will break into several other markets in 2017, including Denver, Cincinnati, Miami, Hartford, Nashville and Baltimore.
To participate, charities should register free at https://indianapolis.bfg.org/city by Oct. 28, 2016. Three-hundred-seventeen Indianapolis nonprofits have already registered to be considered to play in the 2017 tournament starting Feb. 24.
Additionally, Indianapolis is one of just a few cities in which Brackets For Good is introducing Community Teammates. As a Brackets For Good Community Teammate, local business will be systematically paired with a local nonprofit to help them – however they think best – advance in the 2017 Brackets For Good tournament. The selection process is dependent on the pool of nonprofits that register as well as the company’s geographic and cause preferences.
Being a Community Teammate offers participating local business several employee-engaging, brand-building benefits that highlight their organization as an active, socially responsible company in the Indianapolis-area. For more information about Community Teammates, visit https://indianapolis.bfg.org/community_teammates.
The positive impact of the Brackets For Good tournament on the Indianapolis-area is only made possible due to the support of local businesses dedicated to the community.
“Valeo Financial and its employees are committed to improving the lives of others,” said John Wortman of Valeo Financial Advisors. “Creating social good is core to our corporate DNA. Helping bring Brackets For Good back to Indianapolis in 2017 is a great way to put our commitment to the community in action.”
Brackets For Good 2017 Indianapolis sponsors include: Valeo Financial Advisors; Lids; Bingham, Greenebaum, and Doll; FirstPerson; Citimark; Stanley Security Solutions; Lodge Design; Printing Partners; Buckingham Foundation; Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance; Hedges & Associates; Bloomerang; MOBI; and One Click.
“We’re excited to get involved in the 2017 Indianapolis Brackets For Good tournament in a new and innovative way,” said Randy Stocklin, CEO of One Click. “Community involvement is important to us and we’re thrilled to bring our unique game spirit to help the organization we’re paired with advance in the tournament, as a community teammate.”
Brackets For Good founders are especially hopeful 2017 will be the best year yet for the Indianapolis tournament.
“Although Brackets For Good has expanded into 10 additional cities, the tournament here at home, where it all started, carries special significance,” said co-founder, Matt McIntyre. “Last March, $446,514 was raised by local nonprofits, and in 2017 we’re expecting that number to rise even higher. Beyond raising funds for nonprofits, we’re excited about the longterm impact of getting more and new people in the community involved in philanthropy.”

Valeo Financial Advisors is an independent financial planning and registered investment advisory firm headquartered in Indianapolis, IN, and one of the largest fee-only financial advisory firms in the Midwest.
In 2015 and 2014 Valeo was named by Financial Times as one of the top 300 Registered Investment Advisers (“FT 300”) across the U.S. Their success is attributed to the fact that:
- Valeo provides advice rather than selling products
- Advice is centered on each client’s entire net worth rather than investments only
- Advisors work for a limited number of clients to ensure the best possible service and accessibility.
Valeo’s mission is to improve how clients consume and advisors deliver financial advice. Clients and advisors must both insist upon key attributes (noted on this page.) Otherwise, the financial services industry will continue to be dominated by firms that disguise their product-oriented salespeople as trusted advisors to drive profits for their firms rather than results for their clients.
“Our first charitable fund dates back to 2003, the year we were founded. Since then we have formed the Valeo Foundation, Inc., a public charity with a mission to help provide for basic human needs of food, shelter, health care, and education at home and abroad.”
In addition, Valeo has been able to leverage our philanthropic impact by matching the qualified charitable contributions of their employees.
“We love the fun, competitive approach BFG uses to activate new donors, increase exposure for local nonprofit organizations and, ultimately, increase charitable giving to those organizations,” Valeo said. “This approach to philanthropy is a win on so many different levels, we just had to participate. We hope our involvement and the ideas we have brought to the table will have a lasting impact on BFG and the participating nonprofits for a long time.”
Valeo is proud to be the title sponsor of the 2016 Indianapolis Brackets for Good Tournament.
